Stonewall in China?

When police in Guangzhou, China, tried to sweep out a group of gay men from a park, they got more than they bargained for.
.
.
The group of 50 men refused to leave the park and instead confronted the 5 officers.
.
While state media largely ignored the standoff, it has raised the question worldwide:
"Is this the beginning of a new era of gay community consciousness in China?"
.
Perhaps every country has its own Stonewall, its moment of confrontation with local prejudices against homosexuality.
.
Gay rights was removed from the official list of mental disorders in 2001.
