Cardinal Sean Brady said he was 'ashamed' of his handling of a child sex abuse scandal 35 years ago.

Cardinal Brady, who is under pressure to resign, apologised for his 'failure' to notify the police when he participated in interviews with two victims of a notorious paedophile priest in 1975.

The Pope conceded that the Catholic Church had been 'severely shaken' by the crisis.
In Rome, Benedict XVI announced that he will put his signature to a long-awaited letter to the sex abuse sacandals.
