Screams, cheers and chants broke out from the 30,000 people who had gathered on iconic Copacabana Beach....
...where they heard the news that their
city of Rio de Janeiro had been selected to host the 2016 Olympics.

"Not just Rio, but South America. The other countries have had their Olympics;
I think it is Rio's turn, representing the continent."

Forbes magazine recently ranked "Cariocas"- Rio's residents as the happiest people in the world, and they had not waited for the news to start the party with celebrities and former Olympic athletes appearing on stage.

It will also be the first Olympics in South America, and will come on the heels of the 2014 Soccer World Cup, to be held in Brazil, with the finals in Rio de Janeiro.
