Smoke and steam rises from the volcano under the Eyjafjallajokull glacier in Iceland, which erupted for the second time in less than a month.

A volcanic eruption in Iceland has halted most air traffic in Scandinavia and Britain.

French aviation officials said Thursday the ash plume forced the closure of the main airport in Paris, as well as several others air facilities in the country.

British airspace has been closed down for the first time since the September 11, 2001 attacks on New York.
