Soccer:
Finding creative ways to fight
European soccer homophobia
Visitors attending the 2008 UEFA Eurocopa, currently being held in various locations around Austria and Switzerland, are about to get a dose of reality. In an effort to shed light on the homophobic side of European soccer/football, a competition to create gay-friendly soccer posters was recently completed.
The winning poster, created by Vienna art student Martina Schoenherr, shows the torso of a player dressed in the Austrian team colors, but instead of a team captain's armband, he wears a band with the word "Gay" written on it.
The winner along with 31 of the best submissions are currently being shown in the Museumsquartier art complex, just a short distance from the official fan zone in Vienna.
On June 16th, 15 of the posters will be displayed at the LockerRoom, a gay and lesbian bar in the middle of the Zurich fan zone.
